Fragrances plus pheromones. Is it for real?
The pheromone - as a substance - discovered only some fifty plus years ago immediately got the eyes of the perfumers. The mysterious chemical although possessing no smell of its own, seems to trigger almost immediate arousal and sexual desire.
Fleeting compounds as they are, originating from apocrine glands in the very same body areas that we find so physically intimate, they never stop doing their magic as we cross the threshold of puberty.
However, actual human pheromones are outlawed in perfumery IRL!
Meanwhile all cultures have been using aphrodisiacs for the same purpose thousands of years long before the discovery of the pheromones - the trade in rare aphrodisiacs of plant or animal origin have been part of the busy Silk Road across Europe and Asia for centuries. Oriental myrrh and musks, Baltic amber and Javan patchouli have always been staple ingredients of the fragrance alchemists. These are all Nature’s very own ‘pheromones’.
