Jean-Claude Ellena is one of the most famous perfumers in the world. Which is not a big surprise, because he grew up surrounded by fragrances. His farther also used to be a perfumer and grandfather was working with flowers.
When Jean-Claude started his career as a worker on a factory in Grasse he was only sixteen. He chose this place because his father used to work there and Jean-Claude knew that factory will give him an opportunity to receive first knowledge about fragrances.
In 1968 he became one of the first students of the newly opened Givaudan Perfume School in Switzerland. After graduating, Jean-Claude started to look for his own style by mixing substances and essences.
Jean-Claude's work was mainly influenced by the people who he met. In 2000, he created his own perfume company: The Different Company. Later it will be created by his daughter Celine, who also choose this profession.
Ellena is a minimalist: he wears exclusively white shirts, uses no more than 30 components for his work, and never uses perfume on himself.
